Mayan Jumble iPhone game
December 2009
Mayan Jumble is a simple and addictive tile game — an app built for the iPhone and iPod touch. The development of the app was a co-production between Brett Thompson’s Midwinter Studios and Chicago’s Resolution Digital Studios.
Brett from Midwinter originally came up with the game idea and developed the architecture. As he looked for someone to help him apply a visual style, music and sound design, he chose Resolution, initially because of Bryen Hensley’s sound design reputation. Once Brett visited Resolution and discovered that the studio also has graphic design and project management capabilities, he asked us to help with some of those aspects as well.
Resolution provided all the graphics, animation and sound design, and composer Mike Salvatori (the Halo series) provided the music. To complete the game, Brett brought in a code writer to put it all together. The process took less than two months.
The game itself is challenging, requiring that the player use open spaces to rearrange the tiles in a square, with each tile matching its neighbors. Work to beat the clock! Solve the puzzle in the least number of moves as you advance to each level. Keep an eye out for future versions and game enhancements!
